UN SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
In addition to improving our energy efficiency, reducing our GHG emissions and increasing the use of renewable energy at our mine sites, Agnico Eagle partners with local utilities to improve the availability of reliable energy for the communities that surround our mines.
Working for a Sustainable Future:
At our La India site in Mexico, we are advancing the "Power Line” project with the Federal Electricity Commission, which will eventually supply electricity to the communities of Batería de Rodríguez and Jesús del Monte. Agnico Eagle has helped advance the project through numerous government approval stages, as well as through various design and budgeting stages. When completed, this joint energy project between La India and the Municipality of Ocampo will benefit over 120 families in the region.
Also at La India, Agnico Eagle donated and installed solar energy systems at 18 schools in six communities that surround the mine site. This has introduced a sustainable energy supply that has helped power up its newly donated computers and also modernized community schools at the preschool, elementary and high school levels.
