UN SDG 2: Zero Hunger

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

Agnico Eagle operates in some regions of the world that confront issues of chronic malnutrition, which can have long-term implications for a child’s brain development and performance in school. As such, we work closely with community partners to support programs focused on reducing childhood malnutrition and hunger. Eradicating malnutrition helps drive a child’s skills and abilities to take on technical and employment challenges as adults.

Working for a Sustainable Future:

In Nunavut, Agnico Eagle provides ongoing support to various community food programs in remote villages such as Whale Cove and Chesterfield Inlet, as well as funding to traditional Hunter Harvester programs.

In Mexico, in addition to providing ongoing support to community food hamper programs offered by local municipalities, we contribute to various local agricultural initiatives. In 2017, our La India site, for example, supported the rehabilitation of local livestock pens, donated fencing material for the restoration of local ranching areas and coordinated the donation of glass preserve containers, to contribute to economic sustenance in the region.
